If you’ve ever been to New Buffalo, Michigan, you’ve seen the pink ice cream shop covered in pig memorabilia. If not, you’re missing out. I’m making it my mission this summer to consume and review every ice cream flavor packed into that shop. Why you may ask?
My 23 years of life have been dedicated and loyal to the wonder and marvel that Yellow Cake Batter and Chocolate Peanut Butter provide my taste buds. I did do a stint with Chocolate Cake Batter, but unfortunately that flavor doesn’t reside in the ice cream coolers anymore.
One day I thought, what if I am unknowingly doing myself an injustice by never venturing out of my favorite flavor comfort zone? What if there is a third or fourth flavor that I enjoy JUST AS MUCH as Yellow Cake Batter and Chocolate Peanut Butter? What a dishonor that would be to the ice cream Gods. So here I am, on a mission to find that answer.
Here are the rules. I can only get one flavor at a time. No double scoops that could potentially melt together and invalidate my review. I cannot repeat a flavor until I try them all. This is incredibly hard as I always want to resort to my go-to’s. I must take a picture. I will rate based off of visual appeal, ratio of ice cream to add-ins, texture, likelihood to order again, and overall review. Let’s spoon, people.

First of the season: Yellow Cake Batter
Cake Batter Ice Cream Base with Chunks and Swirls of Chocolate Cake
Visual Appearance: 7/10
The bright yellow is a bit offsetting, but also intriguing.
Ratio: 10/10
I might be biased on this one (definitely), but the ratio of ice cream to chocolate cake is on POINT.
Texture: 8/10
I’ll admit that there are times that the chunk-age can have a dryness to it. AT TIMES. Not all the time. Otherwise I would give it a perfect 10.

Chocolate Peanut Butter
Chocolate Ice Cream with Swirls of Peanut Butter Goodness

I would give this a 10/10, but I could also respect people’s opinion of thinking the peanut butter looks unwelcoming.

Chocolate Peanut Butter is a hard flavor to perfect. In my experience of eating, the peanut butter has a tendency to be overpowering. Sherman’s hit this nail on the head. There never is a moment that I think “too much PB”

Cotton Candy Confetti
Cotton Candy Ice Cream with Confetti Candy Bites
Visual Appearance: 10/10
Rainbow. It is rainbow. Who doesn’t love rainbows.
Ratio: 4/10
Hard hitting with the 4, but it deserves it. There are way too many candy bites. It gets stuck in your teeth. It takes away from the experience.
Texture: 9/10
There’s not much that could be done to mess up the texture of this one.

Chocomania
Dark Chocolate Ice Cream with Chunks of Chocolate
Visual Appearance: 9/10
Honestly looks like brownie batter to me and that just makes me want to lick the whole bowl- I mean eat the entire carton.
Ratio: 5/10
I didn’t get it. Sometimes there were chunks of chocolate, sometimes there weren’t. When there were, the chunks were large and displeasing.

This is more so just chocolate ice cream with surprises of chocolate chunks. Smooth.

This ice cream flavor has been hyped up to me for years. It didn’t meet any of my expectations, and if we are being honest, I had my dad finish it for me. Sad day for ice cream.
Cherry Amaretto
Amaretto Ice Cream Base with Chocolate Swirls and Maraschino Cherries

I think this screams “try me!”

Disturbingly pleased with the ratio. Perfect amount of chocolate to cherries.

This was so fun to eat! It had chunkage, it had swirls. It excited the taste buds.

People, I do not like Amaretto, but I LOVED this ice cream. It’s something I would have never gotten, and that’s what this is all about right? At least get a taste test the next time you stop in.
Cookies and Cream

I would only get this if you have a toddler who only eats Cookie and Cream ice cream. It tastes like vanilla. You’re better off making your own version at home.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

I do not like vanilla based ice cream flavors, because I think vanilla is a boring flavor, but imagine my pleasant surprise to find out this ice cream base IS FLAVORED. It was amazing. I haven’t been able to stop dreaming about it. Once this experiment is over, it will definitely be in my rotation of flavors.
Brownie Delight

Get get one dry, sad brownie in every five bites

You want to be excited for the brownie, but then you’re disappointed.

Everything about this ice cream tastes like you could have made a better ice cream sundae yourself. The syrup tastes like Hershey’s syrup and the brownies are in every way NOT delightful. If you’re into homemade sundaes, go for it. If you’re like me who wants to be eating something I can’t make at home, skip this flavor.
Banana Nut

It’s easy to be overzealous with nuts in ice cream, this wasn’t the case.

It’s not that it’s bad in any regard, just kind of uneventful.

My boyfriend picked this out for me after work, and it wasn’t until I was halfway done that I realized I didn’t snap a picture. At first bite, I was nervous it would taste like Laffy Taffy Banana – not my cup of tea. Sherman’s does a pretty good job nailing the Banana Bread taste. If you’re really in the mood, it will do the trick. If you’re going here for the first time, I recommend one of my higher rated ice cream flavors instead.
Oreo Cheesecake

Exceptionally better ratio than cookies and cream, but always could use more cookies.

If you’re looking to get Cookies and Cream, get Oreo Cheesecake instead. It doesn’t taste anything like cheesecake, which I didn’t mind, but everything like Cookies and Cream. They honestly should get rid of the Cookies and Cream flavor and just have this option. This is something I would have easily looked over before, but definitely fulfills your Oreo needs. God Bless.
Lemon Custard

This is aggressive, but there is no ratio between lemon & custard. It tastes like pure custard and that maybe you thought about lemons while eating it.

My boyfriend picked this flavor out for me based off a RECOMMENDATION from the worker. Not that it matters because I have to eventually try every flavor… but I can’t believe this is someone’s favorite. There is no lemon flavor. Don’t get this if you specifically want lemon, you’ll just be disappointed.
Birthday Cake

This is a solid choice. My description is based off my vague memory of reading it off the cooler. I don’t really know where the marshmallow was, but I wasn’t missing it. I don’t know how, but Sherman’s nails the whole “Cake Batter” flavoring. I would prefer my Yellow Cake Batter over this, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad flavor.
Rocky Road

Rocky Road is a staple in American ice cream that can be found at every grocery store/convenience store. That being said, you are better off utilizing your mouth at Oink’s on a more riveting flavor (unless you are a diehard Rocky Road connoisseur, get licking).
Moose Tracks
Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream with Fudge Swirls & Chocolate Coated Peanut Butter

It’s intriguing for sure, but I was still skeptical of it’s properties.

I would have never picked this out if I was just walking in, but it took me by surprise! I have found that I really enjoy ice cream that has chunks in it (going to be a problem when I have only creamy ice creams left to try). If you like to chew your ice cream, this really does the trick. I’m nervous I’m going to have too many favorite flavors now.
Peanut Butter Cup

Thoroughly impressed yet I was wishing for a few more cups.

Amazing. The cups weren’t too hard or too soft/grainy. They nailed this.

I love my chocolate peanut butter ice cream, but I tend to overlook other peanut butter items as they are usually too overbearing. This is not. The only reason it only has a 65% repeat rate is because I would always choose Chocolate PB when feigning for my fix, but I would 100% compound them when in binge mode.
Mint Chocolate Chip

This was rough for me as there were times I had too much chocolate chips and times I had no enough.

It’s not bad, but it’s not exciting. If I caught myself specifically in the mood for some mint chocolate chip, I know this would cater to that. However, I’m not usually ever in that mood.
Peppermint Patty

This tastes like a Fannie May chocolate. I had to restrain myself from blurting this out earlier. It will absolutely tickle your taste buds if you’re a Mint Meltaway Fanatic.
Black Cherry

I got this flavor solely because I am required to try every single one. I had no idea what to expect, but it is extremely refreshing. Highly recommend to cool you off on a bloody hot July day.

The coffee flavor is super intense. We used to eat spoonfuls of coffee grounds in college for fun (idk) and this reminds me of that. It’s good for a few bites! But quickly becomes overwhelming. Coffee fanatics will love this, but it’s not really what I desire in an ice cream flavor.

This baby was good! It had a butterscotch taste but wasn’t very intense. I’ve never had butter pecan, but I imagine it has a similar taste. It’s basic, but it’s a goodie. My taste buds will have you again one day.

This is literally French Silk Pie without the crust or whipped cream. I done wish there were chunks of pie crust in it. It’s mind blowing how spot on the taste is. If you love the pie, you’ll love this ice cream.

I don’t quite know the origins of this flavor, but I feel like it’s lacking. They could be doing so much better. There seems to be a trend with Sherman’s ice cream flavors that the chocolate chunks are off, so I would probably stay away from them at this point.

First of all, the ice cream has zero cheesecake flavor. Nothing about this is Strawberry Cheesecake. SO it’s essentially a strawberry vanilla sundae and I am OKAY WITH THAT because it’s quite yummy.
Coconut Almond Fudge, Marion Blackberry, & Apple Crisp
This is hard to judge the specifics because it was in a sundae but ya girl is desperate to get in all of the flavors before season end OKAY
Coconut Almond Fudge (1st)
I’m not going to front, I can’t break this flavor down in the same regard as the others. I’ve only had it in an ice cream sundae, and only in small quantities, as it is my boyfriend’s favorite so I let him do the honors. I have vivid memories of coconut flakes, so it’s not lacking in that department. It being my boyfriend’s favorite should say something though… definitely worth trying!
Blackberry flavored Ice Cream w/ Blackberry Swirls (2nd)

This ice cream is SO GOOD but in MODERATION. I loved the initial bites… but after awhile I had to tap out. It was overpowering. Get a baby scoop.
Apple Pie flavored Ice Cream (4th)

New York Cherry

It’s boring. It’s so plain. I just wished the entire time it was cherry amaretto. It would be good with hot fudge… so essentially if you turned it into a homemade cherry amaretto.
Butter Pecan

They really just nailed it. So buttery. So Pecany. Much Butter Pecan.

I really have only had Butter Pecan maybe twice in my life, but this is a great take on the classic. It doesn’t do much for me personally, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad flavor.
Toffee (Not) Fantastic

Here is what the texture and visual appearance doesn’t tell you- it straight up tastes like you used grocery store ice cream and put hershey’s chocolate syrup on it. And then tried to sneak in the toffee bits without Mom seeing. You can make a better concoction at home. Skip this flavor.
Strawberry

I don’t think I’ve ever had strawberry ice cream just on its own, so I have nothing to compare it to. I’ve always been kind of put off to the idea of it, but this did not disappoint! It was incredibly refreshing and didn’t taste artificial. I can definitely see myself craving this on a hot July day.
Blueberry Vanilla Yogurt

This is another flavor that I just don’t really get. The concept is super promising, but it doesn’t deliver. Sherman’s being Michigan based- you would HOPE that it was bursting with some local blueberries… yet it really just tastes like vanilla yogurt. Your way better off with a different scoop.
Pumpkin & Salted Caramel

The only thing that would make this better is if it had bites of pie crust in it. It taste JUST LIKE PUMPKIN PIE. I highly recommend this for your October taste buds.
